About Friends of Lowndes Park

This website was made possible through the generosity of the Chiltern District Council. The Friends of Lowndes Park working in partnership with Chesham Town Council.
The Friends came about in response to an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for significant funding for Lowndes Park. A prerequisite of the application was the involvement of a community group (traditionally a Friends' Group.
In January 2007 a few people got together and decided that if that were a requirement of the bid they would form a Friends group. From the outset the town supported Lowndes Park and by extension the Friends and soon we had a core group.
We set ourselves a target of 101 members, as we wanted to be able to tell the Heritage Lottery Fund that the Friends boasted over 100 members.
Businesses and organisations became corporate members and helped to swell the ranks.
Sadly the bid submitted in 2008 was ultimately unsuccessful but rather than become despondent and giving up this has galvanised the Friends as we seek to identify funding from other sources. We publish a newsletter a minimum of four times a year and hold social occasions usually some guided walks and an annual summer picnic.
The Friends have submitted several applications for funding, and hold monthly working party events in the park.
News & Events
The Friends are moving the weekend working party to the second Sunday of the month and the next one will be on Sunday 12 February. We hope to be pruning roses, weeding the beds and then take a look to see if the snowdrops we have planted over the last few years are coming through. We meet at 10am in the Archena Garden which is next to the Temperance Hall in Church Street.
The Friends are hoping to plant around 30 native tree saplings in the Wildlife Area at their working party on Sunday 8 January. They have been donated by the 10th Chesham Guides and were given to them by the Woodland Trust. The varieties of tree include Holly, Wild Rose, Hawthron, Hazel and Dogwood.
We would like to thank Helena Mills who raised £570 for the Friends of Lowndes Park in memory of her good friend Ben Cargill. Over the course of the last summer she took part in not one but three triathlons. Please click on the title for more details and picture.
