The Youth Activity Area

Description

This area is comprised of a skateboarding area, teen shelter, a ball games area for cricket and football and a multi-use games area.

Current condition

The cricket wicket is on a slope rendering it difficult to use. The cricket wicket and goal post require renewal.

Use of the Skateboard Park disturbs residents adjoining the park and has been the subject of a legal injunction governing noise. As a result the skateboard ramps are chained up at 8.00pm during summer to prevent use in the late evening and at night.

Future Plans

The usage of and demand for the cricket wicket and goal post will be assessed as part of a review by the Town Council of current participation trends to evaluate level of provision.

The Skateboard Park is considered integral to the park and so, if a suitable budget can be identified, it will be moved to a more central location allowing for unrestricted use. Failing this, planting will be added to the mound, including an acoustic barrier of willow to increase screening and reduce noise intrusion for local residents whilst maintaining visibility and security levels.

The Friends are moving the weekend working party to the second Sunday of the month and the next one will be on Sunday 12 February. We hope to be pruning roses, weeding the beds and then take a look to see if the snowdrops we have planted over the last few years are coming through. We meet at 10am in the Archena Garden which is next to the Temperance Hall in Church Street.

We would like to thank Helena Mills who raised £570 for the Friends of Lowndes Park in memory of her good friend Ben Cargill. Over the course of the last summer she took part in not one but three triathlons. Please click on the title for more details and picture.
